Living in Sync With Your Cycle
Periods are still treated as taboo—surrounded by secrecy, shame, and silence. Growing up the conversation often starts and ends with “Don’t get pregnant.” However, some girls begin menstruating as early as eight years old and well into adulthood with little to no understanding of the emotional or physical changes that come with it. When I was a teen, I knew very little about my period. Well-meaning women in my life taught me how to stay clean, dispose of pads properly, and avoid boys. But no one prepared me for the mood swings, fatigue, or cramps that came with this natural part of life. Like many women, I was taught to simply push through. It wasn’t until five years ago—after a season of chronic stress —that I began tuning into my body in a new way. I took a personal inventory and realized how little I truly understood the body I live in every day. I don’t remember exactly when I first heard about cycle syncing, but I remember seeing an illustration that broke down the four phases of the menstrual cycle. And I thought this makes sense.
The Four Phases of Your Cycle
1. Menstrual Phase (Days 1–5)
This is when your period begins. Estrogen and progesterone levels are low, so energy naturally dips. Your body is shedding and releasing. It’s a time to rest, reflect, and slow down.
2. Follicular Phase (Days 6–14)
Estrogen begins to rise as your body prepares for ovulation. You may feel lighter, more energetic, and creative. This is an ideal time to start new projects or try something different.
3. Ovulatory Phase (Around Day 14)
An egg is released and estrogen peaks. You may feel your most confident, magnetic, and social. This is the time to show up—at work, in relationships, and for yourself.
4. Luteal Phase (Days 15–28)
Progesterone increases and you may feel more sensitive, tired, or inward. This is your body asking you to slow down, ground yourself, and nourish deeply.
Cycle syncing isn’t just a wellness trend—it’s a way to live in harmony with your natural design. Your body is not just a machine—it’s a vessel. It holds your intuition, creativity, and power. When we align with our cycles, we stop fighting against ourselves and start flowing with what’s already within us. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about honoring and respecting your body by taking care of it. Living in sync means giving yourself permission to show up and be present.
If you’ve never tracked your cycle before, start today. Notice your energy, your emotions, and your cravings. Begin to tune in.
